How to Play Audiobooks on iPad

If you have just purchased and downloaded an audiobook for the first time through iTunes on the iPad then you may be wondering how to play the audiobook. You may have already noticed that your Audiobook is not visible under the purchased tab on iTunes and if you navigate back to the book you get the very unhelpful message telling you the book is downloaded. If you also thought the book would be available in the iBooks app then you would also be wrong. Thanks, Apple!

Look no further! Simpy follow the steps below and you will be able to find and play all the audiobooks downloaded on your iPad.

The Solution

  1. Open up the music app (iPod app on older versions of iOS).
  2. On the bottom navigation bar where it reads “Store”, “Playlists”, “Songs” etc. Click on the “More” button.
  3. A pop-up window will appear listing Genres, Composers, Podcasts and Audiobooks.
  4. Click on Audiobooks and select the audiobook you would like to listen to.

  1. I just tried this, knowing that I have two itunes audiobooks showing up in my library on my iMac. I got nothing. My “more” tab shows Genres and Composers. That’s it.

    1. If you purchased them on the iMac then the only thing I can think of is that the audiobooks did not successfully transfer to the iPad. If purchased on the iPad then I am not sure.
